Google introduced a "probation period" for new sites and new links recently. This means if you are a new site, or are starting a new link popularity campaign, your site will be in a "probation limbo" for a period of six to eight months. This effectively kills the most recent rage of buying links for link popularity purposes. Of course, a link on a good site that produces human traffic may still worth buying. But, footer links purely for spider purposes is dead, unless it's super cheap. However, you should still be working on link popularity through directories, highly relevant link exchanges, articles and content building.

1/24/05 - MSN launches (Re-Releases) it's own Search Engine
A few days ago MSN re-launched it's own search engine results. For the past few years they have been using Inktomi results. As you know, Inktomi was purchased by Yahoo, who also owns Overture. So, in effect they had become a Yahoo web site with special MSN advertising. Now, they only use Yahoo-Overture PPC results and their own natural results. The good news for Serr.biz clients is that most of you have already attained top ten ranking in MSN because of our SEO practices and skills. However, it is curious to note, that MSN is still a little behind Google and Yahoo in regard to overall relevancy of key terms. In some cases they are spot-on but will show a wide swing in results for plural forms of search terms. Additionally, they still seem to favor an older form of seo which uses hyphenated file names. IE: http://www.youdomain.com/hyphenated-file-name.html. It was our observation that Yahoo and Google were down grading web sites who over used hyphens. We had restricted our use of Hyphens to be nor more than two per file name. Additionally, Yahoo and Google also seem to downgraded domains with more than one hyphen in their name. For our more aggressive clients, we are considering the use of separate web sites to be tailored for each of the three major search engines: MSN, Yahoo and Google. Whether our clients choose that option or not, many rank well already in MSN, and the reason aer the two golden rules: Content is King and Link Popularity is Queen. 1/15/04 - In less than a month, Serr.biz attains top ten ranking for TempApts in Yahoo's organic search results.
