In 2005 Serr.biz partnered with Hoboken Vine to create NoMerlot.com, not so pretentious wine reviews. Serr.biz's primary objective was to experiment with a new blog software called B2evolution and how effectively it could be used for SEO. Additionally, Serr.biz explored RSS feeds, trackbacks and building community. Within 60 days NoMerlot.com attained top ranking in MSN for terms such as "White Wine Reviews".
Hoboken Vine's primary objective was to educate people about wine. To monetize the site, we sold ad space via Google's Adsense program. "If the site pays for itself, we'll be satisfied." Over the course of twelve months NoMerlot.com rose steadily through the search engines and attained top ranking for terms such as "Wine Review", "White Wine Review" and hundreds of granular terms in Google, Yahoo and MSN. From the Serr.biz point of view the ranking of NoMerlot.com was a terrific SEO, blogging marketing (BAAM) success. From Hoboken Vine's point of view, the site was too successful. Their primary business focus is retail wine sales, not editing a wine review site. Though the site pays for itself via Google Adsense, we suspended work until an online wine vendor could be arranged. However, the SEO web design, unique content and strong link popularity continues to push NoMerlot.com into the top ten of Google for keywords such as "Wine Reviews", as well as hundreds of granular terms.
