The default Joomla 1.5 meta functions lack significant meta data control at the section, category and article level. Joomla 1.5 SEO patch helps correct this problem via core system hacks. If you are afraid of working with source code and using FTP this component is not for you. To install, you need to unzip the package, back up core system files, and overwrite via FTP. For those brave souls, this is cake and a must have as it allows custom meta to be set at the menu level (section and category layouts), as well as the article level. Ideally, we would like the meta and SEF to be removed completely from menu items, but that's a separate project.

Now, a couple notes. In our experience, we still found this hack lacking. We like to set global keywords and weave it all into the title, meta description and keywords. Though you can do this somewhat via the preset functions, we had to hack the hacks to get what we wanted.
