Determining competition Google Search index
Wednesday, 14 November 2007 13:14

Have you ever wondered how many competitors you have for a particular key term or phrase (KWP)? It's very easy to determine. Just type in a phrase in Google or Yahoo and in the top of the search results, Google and Yahoo both show you how many pages there are in their index for a given term. Now, this must be taken with a grain of salt, as the numbers are always obscene. In the video below, which was created in relationship to the news article, Google Purges Search Index , you will see the volume of competitors varies greatly. For the most part, we only concern ourselves with the competition in Google, as Yahoo tends to reflect Googles search results. The higher the volume of pages in either Google or Yahoo's cache, the longer your SEO will take. Keep this in mind when choosing your keywords.
