Free content for my site?

The Question: FREE content for my site?

Here is the situation.  We have been approached by a 3rd party who says they want to write content for my site about getting your driving license in California. We provide drivers education courses.  The 3rd party wants to write a general article about buying cars.  They want us to post the content on our site and then link back to their site about buying cars in Vermont. Seems like a win-win.  What do you think?

Answer:
Well, it does seem like a win-win.  But, I'm cautious. There are 3 issues to be considered here.

First, relevancy. Since the primary goal of your site is to sign up new driving students, the "buying a car content" is a bit off topic. Yes, it's related, but off topic because of the link to the Vermont car seller. You would be better off with content about California driving law, or if the article was specifically about buying cars in California, or better, your specific location, say, Los Angeles, then I would probably say OK. But, since it sounds like the article is just generic, and really is being used just to build link popularity for the Vermont Car Seller, I would reject this offer.

2)Who owns the copyright? You? The writer? There are all sorts of issues here.  What if the writer stole the article? What if the writer decides they don't want you to use the article anymore? Nightmare. Stay away.

3) Is the content original and unique? If the same article is posted on 1-100 other sites, you do NOT want it. You want UNIQUE, original content that is relevant to your site and your sites goals.

Given these variables, I would reject the offer, or see if they are willing to write unique content relevant to your site. Since they are in Vermont, I doubt.

Note: If you need unique, original content written for you site, please contact us, we will be glad to assist.
