How to build RLP Relevant Link Popularity. Before your start a RLP campaign, be sure to SEO your site with SEF, meta, and RUC. Otherwise, you'll likely have to go back and "update links" on 3rd party sites. Ugh. What a waste of time. With that said, there are many ways to build RLP links. You can trade linkes and submit to directories. However, we find trading links to be a waste of time unless it's super relevant. These days we recommend the following for our clients. 1) Submit to directories which pass PR value (We have a list). Use the paid features, as it guarantees acceptance, so long as you follow their rules. The most important are: Yahoo directory and Business.com. You won't see much human traffic, but you will gain in valid, relevant link pop. 2) Create link bait. This means write great content on your site that people want to link to. Be sure to provide a quick function for people to "link to" your site. On this site we invite people to "qoute and link" to most articles. See below. 3) Comment on blogs, message boards and forums. DO NOT SPAM though. Only leave a comment or post if you have something relevant to say about the topic at hand. In most message boards you can add a link to your profile. Note: Some sites use the Google rel=”nofollow” tag for external links. This prevents Google from following certain links and defeats the purpose of adding a link, unless you are trying to get HUMAN traffic as well as a bump in RLP. You should be. So, go ahead and add a link, post or comment. Ultimately, you are seeking HUMAN traffic whether they come from search engines or other sites. Note: There has been some debate, though little documentation, of Google NOT actually paying attention to the rel=”nofollow” tag. 4) Use RSS to syndicate your content and submit / claim your feed and the top RSS directories. (We have a list) 5) Add social bookmark functions to your site such as the SerrBiz Social Bookmark module that comes bundled with the SerrBizSEF seo component. 6) Buy TEXT ADS where possible on RELEVANT SITES. (Beware of just text links though. Text ads should look like a Google Ad.) 7) Use BAAM, Blog Advertising and Marketing. (We provide this service) 8) Create link bait, create link bait, create link bait. 9) Write and distribute press releases. 10) Use webmaster tools as provided by the search engines. (Google and Yahoo both have such tools.) Things to avoid: Avoid FFA (Free For All) networks. They worked in 1999 for about 10 minutes then were considered spam ever after. |
