AKO Comment Special edition Tweaked
Review and SerrBizSEF Upgrade Rule

Review of component:
We like this component very much.  It has more features than we actually need like pop up windows for comments, print, and email to a friend. Additionally you can turn on a security code to reduce spam and set the system NOT to auto-publish.  This is a great feature as you can approve ALL comments before being published.  This is needed, and recommended, as the spammers still try to send comment spam no matter what you do.

AKO comment also has a feature for EMAIL, PRINT and READ MORE.  I don't know why.  These functions are already available through Joomla, so we do not use for the duplicate content issues listed in the SerrBizSEF rules below.

There is also a very nice feature of having an RSS feed for your AKO comments, which users may like. We certainly do as it again bulks up our RUC (Readable Unique Content) and adds MORE RSS to our content rich site.

Overall, we give this component a Thumbs Up.

SerrBizSEF UPGRADE Rules for AKO Comment Special Edition Tweaked

Our rule creates a special SEF with the QUOTE this article function.

For example:

/index.php?option=com_akocomment&task=quote&id=185&Itemid=59

...will change to...

/quote-on-website/article.html

Additionally, the URL embedded in the QUOTE THIS code is the correct SEF.  We recommend using this function as it will “bulk” up your RUC (Readable unique content) as well as help build link popularity by anyone who links to your articles.

Our rule also creates a SEF for the ADD TO FAVORITES function.

For example:

/index.php?option=com_akocomment&task=favoured&id=85&Itemid=59

...will change to...

/add-as-favourites/article.html

However, the ADD TO FAVORITES function does have a potential for duplicate content.  If the user is not registered, they can't actually save the item. What they see is a page with a message saying so, plus, a list of items that would be in their favorites link in the user menu.  The duplicate content issue arises because as numerous unregistered users click this link, there may well be numerous variations of the same page. To resolve this we have set SerrBizSEF to automatically include a ROBOTS tag as NO Index, Follow.  This should effectively stop Google and the other bots from indexing the page, yet build more internal links.  This is a good thing.

In both the instances above, SerrBizSEF creates dynamic html titles and meta data in accordance to our standard rules, and inserts "quote on website" to quote SEF's, and "add as favorites" to favorites SEFS.

Again, this SEO.

As for the PRINT and EMAIL functions they are not needed or recommend.  If you need print and email to friend functions, use the default Joomla functions, as they work fine with SerrBizSEF.  Additionally, if you DO use the AKO print and email functions, you run the risk of creating duplicate content, which should always be avoided.

Now, for the AKO comment RSS function, it does NOT follow default Joomla SEFS, so it is displayed like this:

/index.php?option=com_akocomment&task=feed

Considering it does NOT follow default Joomla SEF, we did not debug. Additionally, we did NOT create a special rule. Instead we decided to create a function in the SerrBizSEF called Special SEFS, which will allow the user to manually create an SEF for 3rd party components that have special links that are not changed by the default Joomla SEF, hence, SerrBizSEF.

Since this is an RSS feed link, it's not ultra important to have an SEF for it.

The bots should still pick it up. What is more important though, is you should REGISTER the AKO Comments RSS feed in the various aggregators out there.
