SerrBizSEF is NOT designed to work with other SEF components besides the default Joomla Component. If you use a 3rd party SEF, we reccomend you conduct a FULL SITE back up including the database before installing and using SerrBizSEF.
Step 1)
- Once you download the package, unzip it.
You will find two more ZIPPED files. The files are called:
com_serrbizsef and mod_serrbizsef_bookmark
DO NOT UNZIP these files.
- Through the Joomla INSTALLER control panel, install the zipped com_serrbizsef as a component.
- Install the zipped mod_serrbizsef_bookmark as a module.
Step 2)
- In the root folder (access through FTP), find the file called htaccess.txt. Rename to just .htaccess . Open file in NOTEPAD or other simple text editor.
Look for this line...
"Begin - Joomla! core SEF Section"
Comment OUT // lines for default Joomla SEF.
Look for this line:
"Begin - 3rd Party SEF Section"
Uncomment lines for 3rd party SEF.
The uncomment .htaccess commands should look like this:

RewriteRule (.*) index.php
- Save .htaccess file and upload to root folder of your Joomla site.
Step 3)
- In the Joomla Admin navigate to the SITE > GLOBAL configuration > SEO.
Turn ON SEF
Turn OFF dynamic titles
- In SITE > GLOBAL configuration > Metadata
Turn ON meta data (Be sure to ADD your primary site description and core keyword cluster. Be sparse.)
- In SITE > GLOBAL configuration
Set the site name field to your domain name.
Step 4)
- Navigate to Components > SerrBizSEF > Configuration
Turn ON all functions you want to use.
If you have UPGRADED for 3rd party RULES go to the COMPONENTS tab and activate available components you use.
Note: Unsupported 3rd party components and modules will use the default Joomla SEFS.
Step 5)
- Navigate to the Module control panel and find two new modules :
SerrBiz Social Bookmarks and SerrBiz Custom Tags.
- Publish both. See notes below as to importance of each.
Social Bookmar Note:
Be sure to install the SerrBiz Social Bookmark module and published. This will help with your overall SEO as it assures the SerrBizSEF title and meta data or included in the <body> copy. This is good SEO.
Custom Tags Note:
Be sure to PUBLISH the new module called SerrBiz TAGS. It should be in an ACTIVE position that is shown on ALL pages. Technically, it will NOT be seen by the public and will NOT affect your design. This module is what creates the TITLE and META data for each SEF.
Step 6)
- ADD URL BONUS FOR ALL USERS
- For any one using SerrBizSEF, we will gladly PROFILE your website on Serr.biz. Just click the + icon in the SerrBizSEF control panel and submit an Add URL request. This will help your SEO link popularity.
Note: All site subject to approval by Serr.biz. We will only profile Family Friendly sites. Mature content may be OK, but adult x, gambling and RX are prohibited.
Note: Upgrade users receive better placement.
