A nice new feature of Virtuemart 1.1.2 is the Zero Price function.  Here is how it works.  If you have some products you give away, say like a download, you can set the price to Zero ( $0.00).  A user can add the item to their cart, checkout and everything goes as expected.

Now, say the you also have "paid" products.  No problem, just add your product, set the price and make it public.  Now, the user can also buy the paid products and still everything works as normal.

Of course, if a customer tries to order a free product and a paid product at the same time, there will be problem.  They will be directed to the payment processor you have selected (IE - Paypal).  They will NOT get their free product until they have completed the order and successfully purchased the paid product.

This should not cause much issue with the customer as they intended to buy something anyway.  But, customers can be, um, confused sometimes.  So, if a your customer complains, just have them place a separate order for the "free" product.

Overall, we think this is a great built in function of Virtuemart.
